TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Al Thornton scored 14 points and Florida State overcame a slow start for its seventh straight victory, a 76-63 win over Saint Peter’s on Saturday.
Saint Peter’s (3-8) dominated the interior, out-rebounding the Seminoles 42-25 and outscoring them 34-36 in the paint, but they struggled to deal with Florida State’s depth. The Seminole reserves outscored Saint Peter’s bench 29-13.
Florida State (11-2) did not score its first field goal until the 14:21 mark in the first half, but a 9-0 and 10-1 run gave them a 40-31 halftime lead. Thornton scored 12 of his 14 in the first half.
The Peacocks had 25 turnovers, and struggled to find their touch outside, making just 1-of-11 3-point shots.
Saint Peter’s Todd Sowell led all scorers with 21 points. He added 11 rebounds to record his sixth double-double this season.
The Peacocks also got 15 points from Raul Orta and 13 from Akeem Gooding.
