Florida State Win Both Matches 7-0 Against Stetson And Florida A&M

Tallahassee, Fla. – No. 59 Florida State women’s tennis squad shut out both Stetson and Florida A&M winning both matches 7-0. The Seminoles increased their record to 5-1 on Saturday, February 17, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

To begin the day, the Seminoles faced the Stetson Hatters winning all of the matches. In singles play, senior Nicola Slater (Ayr, Scotland) won an exciting match. At one point of the match, she was down 1-4 in the first set to come back and win 7-5. Slater won the second set of the match 6-4 against Valentina Galbarini. No. 58 freshman Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) took on Breanna Atkinson and won 6-3, 6-4.

Returning to the court was sophomore Ania Rynarzewska (Inowroclaw, Poland), who was out due to an injury, Katherine Nowicki saw what a difference Rynarzewska made to the team as she lost 6-2, 6-2. Junior Carolin Walter (Bingen, Germany) faced Catherine Canady and won 6-1, 7-6. Winning 6-0, 6-4 was junior Tapiwa Marobela (Gaborone, Botswana) against Anna Leonenko. Closing out the team was freshman Jessica Wente (Whitehouse, Texas) beating Samantha Lange 6-1 and then defaulted.

In doubles play was No. 27 Slater/Macfarlane who defeated Galbarina/Canady 8-3. Wente/ Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England) beat Nowicki/Lange 8-5 while Walter/Marobela followed suit against Atkinson/Katherine St. Clair winning 8-5 as well.

The second match of the day featured Florida State and cross town foe Florida A&M. In singles play, Wente and Foley both went 6-0, 6-0 against their opponents Samaria Bailey and Ashley Green, respectively. Macfarlane defeated her foe Rachel Pye 6-2, 6-1 while Slater won 6-1, 6-3 against Alice Izomor. Marobela beat Kimber Redfern 6-0, 6-4. Winning 6-1, 6-0 was Walter verses Sarah Brinkley.

As for the action in doubles play, the Seminoles dominated the Rattlers winning all three doubles matches. Slater/Macfarlane won 8-0 against Pye/Bailey while Wente/Foley won 8-1 verses Izomor/Brinkley. Marobela/Wente took the court against Green/Fedfern and won 8-0.

The Seminoles travel to Louisiana State University on Friday, February 23 at 3 pm. Florida State returns to Tallahassee on Wednesday, February 28 verses Florida.
