TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – With Notre Dame’s loss to NC State on April 22, the No. 6 Florida State Seminoles (44-6, 21-3 ACC) clinched the regular season title in the ACC for the second straight year and will be the No. 1 seed in the ACC Championships held on May 8-10 in College Park, Md.
Florida State has won 18 of its last 19 conference games and with three more games against Georgia Tech on April 26-27, the Seminoles have already set an ACC record with 21 ACC wins in a single season, breaking the record of 19 set by Georgia Tech in 2010.
“This is just step one in our goal for this season,” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “To get to where we want to be in May and June, you have to take care of business in March and April. I am pleased with how this team is competing right now and working as a family to reach our goals. There is still a lot of softball to be played and we will build on this accomplishment as we wrap up the regular season and start the postseason.”
It is the 12th time in program history Florida State has held or tied for the best record in the ACC heading into the conference postseason. FSU also owns 11 ACC postseason championships, with the last one occurring in 2011.
The Seminoles close out the 2014 regular season with a three-game series against Georgia Tech on April 26-27 at JoAnne Graf Field. Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at 5:00 p.m. with Sunday’s game beginning at 12:00 p.m. We will be celebrating Senior Day prior to Sunday’s game to honor Tiffani Brown, Celeste Gomez, Kelly Hensley, Jessica Nori and Courtney Senas for their excellent careers in the Garnet and Gold.
