April 5, 2003

The Florida State University women’s golf team maintained its overall team lead and senior All-America candidate Kristin Tamulis move into first place in the individual standings after the second round of the Ryder/Florida Championship at Don Shula’s Golf Club and Resort. The Seminoles hold the top four positions in the individual standings with juniors Alison Curdt and Carrie Sordel and freshman Caroline Larsson all tied for second and three strokes behind Tamulis.

Florida State leads South Florida in the team standings by 32 strokes. Florida State entered the tournament ranked 19th by Golfstat and 21st in this week’s GolfWeek/Sagarain Power Rankings.

Tamulis (Naples, Fla.) shot a one-under par 71 and overtook Charlotte Campbell of Rollins College for the individual lead. She will begin Sunday’s third and final round with a three-stroke lead over teammates Curdt, Sordel and Larsson. Tamulis also begins play in the third round looking to claim medalist honors in her second tournament this spring. She won individual honors at the Lady Gator Invitational in March.

Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) and Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) carded identical two-over par scores of 74. Both players also scored 74 in Saturday’s first round and are tied with scores of 148. Sordel finished the second round with her best score of the season, an even par 72. She is also tied with Curdt and Larsson with a two-day total of 148.

Curdt, Larsson and Sordel are all looking for the first career top-five finishes and first possible individual tournament titles.

Junior Katie Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) carded a 78 in today’s second round – one stroke better than her first round score of 79.
