Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Florida State takes second place in the Doubles A Draw as the Doubles B Draw took home the title to conclude the ITA South Regional Championships today, October 22. After spending the weekend at the University of Alabama, the duo of senior Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England) and junior Carolin Walter (Bingen, Germany) took home the title while senior Nicola Slater (Ayr, Scotland) and freshman Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) took second.

“I am so proud of this team and their commitment, work, and effort to come together as a team,” stated head coach Jennifer Hyde. “Things are turning and we are doing so many things right. We are really starting to see the results come from the work we are putting in and from the belief we are starting to gain in each other. I think what we can accomplish anything. I am so proud to be their coach. We have made so much ground but we have so much more to cover.”

In the Doubles A Draw, Slater (Ayr, Scotland) and Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) took home second place after falling to Florida’s Whitney Benik and Nina Suvak 7-9. The duo defeated Florida’s pair of Csilla Borsanyi and Lolita Frangulyan 8-4 in the semifinals.

Foley and Walter defeated UAB’s Gulsah Esen and Nischa Maier-Knapp 8-6 to win the Doubles B title. The duo defeated Mississippi State’s Joseph/Makarycheva 8-5 to advance to the finals.

“Lauren (Macfarlane) and Nic (Slater) played their hearts out,” continued Hyde. “They were so close and got such a taste of what is to come. Everyone on this team is feeling a physical and emotional hurt. At the same time, I think that this loss will keep us very hungry and keep us from settling because we are so close to success. They had a lot of courage up there. It was literally a difference of one point, one match. To put them in the position to win a regional championship shows where we are right now.”

This Seminoles will host the Seminole Invitational next weekend, October 27-29, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Court.
