Florida State University senior linebacker has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Bednarik Award which is presented to the nation’s top defensive player. The Bednarik Award is presented by the Maxwell Football Club and was first presented in 1994 in honor of former Philadelphia Eagle standout Chuck Bednarik.

Davis is Florida State’s defensive captain and team leader in tackles through seven games with 63. He has been ranked among the ACC leaders in tackles throughout the season and enters Saturday night’s game against Maryland ranked second in the conference and 31st in the nation with a 9.0 tackles per game average. Davis recorded his season-high of 12 tackles in the Seminoles’ victories over both Miami (Fla.) on Sept. 4 and Troy on Sept. 9.

Davis, a native of Daytona, Fla., is one of only two ACC players on the Bednarik semifinalist list. He is joined by Gaines Adams of Clemson.

Davis has ranked in Florida State’s top five in total tackles in each of the last three seasons. He has 63 tackles and is the Seminoles’ leader in 2006; he ranked second in 2005 with a career-high 91 tackles and was fourth on the team with 60 tackles as a sophomore. He has 219 career tackles during his four-year career.
