TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) –
Chase Seiffert – the hottest amateur golfer in the state of Florida – won his fourth event of the summer as he earned medalist honors at the Oglethorpe Invitational at the Wilmington Island Club in Savannah, Ga. on July 29. He carded scores of 69-66-68 for a 203 total to win the event by three strokes. Seiffert rallied over his final 10 holes of the round after trailing by one stroke to win the event.

In succession Seiffert has won the Sherman Invitational (with an 11 under par score of 205), the Florida Amateur (1 under par 287), the Florida Open (23 under par 193) and the Oglethorpe Invitational (10 under par 203). He also finished with a two round score of 136 (8 under par) in qualifying for the U.S. Amateur at the Pensacola Country Club in mid-July.

Seiffert, who is still awaiting word on whether he will play in the U.S. Amateur, is a cumulative total of 53 strokes under par over the course of 13 competitive rounds. He has a stroke average of 68.30 and has carded nine of his 13 rounds in the 60’s. Seiffert has carded six consecutive scores at 68 or better including a tournament record 63 in the third round of the Florida Open. He has finished with one score of 63, one score of 64, one score of 65, two scores of 66, three scores of 68 and one score of 69. Seiffert’s highest single round score of the summer (73) came in the Florida Amateur – an event he won by three strokes.

At the U.S. Amateur qualifier on July 17, Seiffert finished in a three way tie for first place. He lost the playoff with the two men ahead of him earning spots in the event which will be played at the Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo., August 13-19. Seiffert hopes to hear any day between now and the start of the U.S. Amateur if he will earn an invitation to play in the event.

If Seiffert is not invited to play in the Amateur, he will attempt to earn his fifth championship of the summer at the Florida Match Play Championship at the Country Club of Orlando August 9-13.

“I have been working very hard on my putting both mentally and physically and I am starting to see huge results,” said Seiffert. “I am also playing with a lot of confidence and playing smart tournament golf. I am coming up with smart game plans for each course and I am sticking to those plans no matter what happens.”

Classes for the fall semester at Florida State begin on August 27 with the fall golf schedule commencing September 17-18 at the Inverness Intercollegiate at the Inverness Club in Inverness, Ohio.
