TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State football players Corey Simon
and Keith Cottrell were named Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the
Week today. The two earned the honors for their performances in the
35-10 win over the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday.
Simon, a senior noseguard from Pompano Beach, Fla., was named
the defensive lineman of the week after totaling eight tackles,
including five solo stops and one tackle for loss. He also recorded his
first career interception that set up the go-ahead touchdown for FSU in
the third quarter. Simon added one sack, three third-down stops and a
Cottrell, a junior punter from Orlando, Fla., was named
specialist of the week after averaging 47.8 yards per punt against
Virginia. He punted six times for the average, including a season-long
53-yarder and had one punt inside the 20 yard line.
The Seminoles took the day off from practice today and have the
open weekend this week. FSU will return to action on Saturday, November
13 as they host the Maryland Terrapins. The game has been moved to
3:30pm and will be carried on ABC.
