LAKE NONA, Fla. – Florida State will have three women’s tennis players and one men’s tennis player begin competition in the NCAA Individual Championships starting on Monday, May 20th.
Carla Touly and Lucas Poullain begin play in the singles competition tomorrow, while Ana Oparenovic and Emmanuelle Salas take the court on Tuesday for the beginning of the doubles competition.
Touly starts play at 5:30 PM against Bianca Turati of Texas. Touly enters the tournament ranked 31st in the country and had a season-high ranking of No. 11 in the fall. She played all season on courts one and two acquiring a 13-9 record including 10 wins over ranked opponents. Turati ranks No. 28 in the country. She played on court one all season for the Longhorns, earning an 11-7 record, including a 6-6 record against ranked opponents.
Touly and Turati faced off earlier this season when Florida State and Texas met early in March. The match went unfinished but Touly held a 2-1 lead in the third set.
Poullain begins competition at 6:00 PM against Tim Sandkaulen of Ole Miss. Poullain comes into the match ranked 30th in the nation, he had a season-high ranking of 18th in the fall. He played all season on courts one and two finishing the spring with a 16-4 record including seven wins over ranked opponents. Sandkaulen ranks 52nd in the nation and led the Rebels all season on court one. He finished the spring with a 13-10 record and a 4-12 record against ranked opponents. Sandkaulen reached a career-high ranking of 15th earlier in this season.
Oparenovic and Salas enter the week ranked No. 21. They take on third-ranked and fourth-seeded Mia Horvit and Ingrid Gamarra Martins of South Carolina. The two Seminoles have played all season on courts one and two finishing the spring with a 14-8 record. 12 of those wins came on court one and five against ranked opponents. Martins and Horvit are 16-5 this spring with 12 wins over ranked opponents.
