Four Seminoles Make All-ACC Teams

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Volleyball is well represented among this year’s All-ACC Teams, nabbing four student-athletes in Taryn Knuth (first team), Emma Clothier (first team), Morgan Chacon (second team) and Jasmyn Martin (second team) on the conference accolades list.

“I am proud of this entire team,” FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. “They all deserve recognition for the hard work they put in. We know that not everybody got recognized in postseason awards but it shows a lot of respect from the other coaches to vote for four of our players to make the All-ACC Teams. This team had a lot of talented players on it. And I am excited about the future of the program.”

Four Seminoles Make All-ACC Teams

Knuth, a senior middle blocker from Johnston, Iowa, becomes the first Seminole ever to make an All-ACC first or second team four times. The 2019 ACC Defensive Player of the Year is the NCAA’s active leader in career blocks per set at 1.55 as well as total blocks at 578. Those numbers could have been elevated even more but Knuth missed four matches in the fall 2020 due to injury.

In the 2021 spring season, Knuth dominated by becoming the first Seminole to earn American Volleyball Coaches Association National Player of the Week following a tremendous performance vs. Clemson. She averaged 1.36 blocks per set as well as 2.46 kills per set this past season.

Clothier, who was snubbed in the pre-season by not being selected as a pre-season All-ACC performer, proved that prognostication wrong this year. The Carrollton, Texas, native backed up her All-Freshman campaign last year by averaging 2.69 kills per set, hitting .481 on the year and averaging 1.02 blocks per set.

Like Knuth, Clothier has emerged as one of the most efficient hitting middles in the country. While Knuth is first nationally with a .549 hitting percentage this year, Clothier ranks second. She will be part of a talented nucleus of young student-athletes whom the Seminoles can continue to build around. Counting her All-ACC Freshman selection in 2019, this is Clothier’s second all-conference honor.

Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Chacon makes her first all-conference team after taking the next step this past year. She finished first on the team with 185 kills and second averaging 2.43 digs per set. The native of Crown Point, Ind., proved to be one of the most versatile players in the conference who can score using a variety of shots. Chacon recorded five double-doubles this past year.

Senior outside hitter Martin of Brooklyn Park, Minn., met her expectations as well, backing up her pre-season honors with another selection to the All-ACC Second Team. She finished with 2.82 kills per set, totaled 43 blocks and added 55 digs this past year. Martin has maintained herself as one of the more consistent outsides in the conference in her two years at FSU.
