TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – A school-record four members of the nationally ranked Florida State Women’s Golf Team – Amanda Doherty, Kim Metraux, Morgane Metraux and Kathleen Sumner – have been named 2018 Women’s Golf Coaches Association Academic All-Americans. It marks the fifth consecutive season at least one Seminole and sixth time at least three Seminoles have been named to the prestigious academic team.
The four Seminoles named WGCA Academic All-Americans were all named to the 2018 ACC Academic Honor Roll and the 2018 All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf Team. During their careers, Doherty, Kim Metraux, Morgane Metraux and Sumner have been named to the Dean’s List (3.5 GPA or better) a total of six times and the President’s List (4.0 GPA) a total of 12 times.
Kim and Morgane Metraux, both of whom graduated from Florida State in May, became just the second and third players in school history named to the team during each of their four seasons as Seminoles. Both players, who earned their Bachelor’s Degrees in Management, joined former Seminole Whitney Brummett as the only four-time selections as WGCA Academic All-Americans.
Doherty (Sport Management), who has been named to the President’s List in three of her first four semesters at Florida State, became just the third student-athlete at Florida State to be named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team as a freshman and sophomore. Sumner (Exploratory) is only the fourth freshman in school history to be named a WGCA Academic All-American.
“The commitment of every member of our team to their academics is incredible,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “Our success in the class room is expected and is one of the most important parts of our program. After enjoying such a strong season on the golf course, it’s great to see their hard work academically paying off.”
The Seminoles tied the school record for best finish in an NCAA Regional Championship (second) and in the ACC Championship (second). Under Bond, the Seminoles appeared in the NCAA Championship Finals for the school-record third consecutive season. Florida State finished in a tie for 12th place in the NCAA Championship Finals in 2018 – the second best national finish in school history.
The criteria for selection as a WGCA Academic All-American are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 for the golfer’s entire career.
