Freshman Kinhult Leads Women’s Golf At Schooner Classic

NORMAN, Okla. ( – Freshman Frida Kinhult finished in a tie for 10th place in the individual standings, and the Florida State Women’s Golf Team finished in ninth place in the team standings as play in the Sixth Annual Schooner Fall Classic at the Belmar Golf Club came to a close. Kinhult earned her second top-10 finish in the first two events of her Seminole career, carded a 3 under par 68 in the third round and finished with an under par tournament score for the second consecutive event.

Kinhult birdied her final three holes and was four under par over her final 12 holes of the round to card her second under par round of the tournament. Her score of 68 was the fourth under par round in the first five rounds of her collegiate career. She is averaging 69.20 strokes in the first five rounds of her Seminole career.

No. 2 ranked Alabama won the team title with a 17-stroke victory over Texas. The Crimson Tide had four of their five players finish under par in the 54-hole tournament in winning the championship. Alabama’s Jiwon Jeon totaled a 17 under par total of 196 to win the individual championship. Her highest single round score of the event was a 66.

“We didn’t get off to best of starts, but we shot nine under on the back which showed me they all have a lot of heart,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “There are a lot of positives and also a lot of things we need to work on that came out of this week. With this young crew, the more times they go around the golf course, the better they will all get.”

Kinhult carded her third round in the 60’s in her first two tournaments as she closed the Schooner with a 3 under par score of 68. She totaled scores of 67-72-68 to finish with a 207 total and under par for the second time as a Seminole. Kinhult carded five birdies in the third round (a total of 15 for the tournament) including birdies on each of her last three holes. She went from even after 15 holes to 3 under par when she signed her score card for the round.

Kinhult was at even or under par for 43 of the 54 holes she played and was never above 1 over par during the entire tournament.

Freshman Amelia Williamson finished in a tie for 25th place in the individual standings with a 1 under par total of 212. She earned scores of 70-69-72 to finish under par in her very first collegiate tournament. Williamson earned birdies on two of her final three holes and was 1 under par over her last 11 holes of the day on Sunday. She played 16 of her 18 holes in the final round at par or better.

Freshman Beatrice Wallin finished in a tie for 28th place in the individual standings, as she too, finished below par for the second time in her first two collegiate tournaments. She totaled scores of 68-72-72 to earn a three-round total of 1 under par 212. Wallin played nearly even par golf for the entire day and earned a birdie on her final hole to finish with a 1 over par 72 in the final round.

Wallin has earned three below par scores in three of the first five rounds of her career.

Sophomore Kathleen Sumner finished her play in the event with a 72 in the final round. She totaled seven birdies in her final two rounds – in which she shot a one-over par total of 143. Junior Amanda Doherty shot a 75 in the final round.

Florida State plays its third of four fall tournaments as it travels to play in the Stanford Intercollegiate at the Stanford Golf Club, Oct, 19-21.
