TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State men’s basketball team won’t officially tip off the 2013-14 season until Nov. 8 but that didn’t stop the Seminoles from beginning the new year on a positive note Wednesday with a 112-74 exhibition victory over Southeastern.

FSU opened the game on an 18-1 run before taking a 51-18 lead into the break at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The `Noles eventually eclipsed the century mark behind 23 points apiece from senior Okaro White and sophomore Montay Brandon.

White also had eight rebounds and Brandon had five boards and five assists.

“I thought we looked really gold in the first half,” White said. “We didn’t play as well as we wanted to in the second half but we will work on that. I just thought for the first time out we did a good job and we know what we have to keep working on.”

Sophomore point guard Devon Bookert added 17 points while rookies Jarquez Smith and Brandon Allen scored 15 and 11 points, respectively, in their FSU debuts. Robert Gilchrist scored 11 points and seven-footers Boris Bojanovsky and Michael Ojo had six apiece.

“The young guys showed some stuff tonight,” White said. “I thought Jarquez White had a good game. He didn’t overdue it and just went out there and played. Brandon Allen came in and had some nice shots and gave us something off the bench. Our second-year guys had a heck of game, too; Devon Bookert and Montay Brandon played great for us.”

The ‘Noles shot 59.2 percent from the field and out-rebounded Southeastern 50-26.

Florida State hosts Flagler College Monday at 7 p.m. in an exhibition match before Jacksonville comes to town for the season opener. To purchase 2013-14 FSU men’s basketball tickets, click here.
