Tallahassee, Fla. –
Florida State defensive end Eric Powell is in stable
condition in the intensive care unit of Orlando Regional Medical Center
after being shot in the right lower back early Sunday morning in Orlando.
Powell, a senior from Jones High School in Orlando, started the Seminoles’
season-opener at Duke on September 1. He had totaled seven tackles over
FSU’s two games, including four solo stops, and currently ranks eleventh on
the team in total tackles.
“We are all very sad about what happened to Eric,” said FSU head coach
Bobby Bowden. “It appears he was the victim of a robbery. I talked with
his mother this morning and she seems to feel like he is making progress.
We are all very sorry and we all will be looking for a speedy and safe
recovery for him.”
Florida State players had the weekend off following the postponement of
their game against Georgia Tech, which was scheduled for 7:45 p.m. on
Saturday in Tallahassee.
