FSU Finishes Regular Season With Senior Weekend

April 25, 2014

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Named 2014 ACC Regular Season Champions earlier in the week without even playing a game, the No. 6 Florida State Seminoles (44-6, 21-3 ACC) look to finish the 2014 regular season on a high note with a three-game series against Georgia Tech (23-20, 11-14 ACC) on April 26-27. FSU will be honoring its seniors prior to Sunday’s game against the Yellow Jackets.

“It definitely gets you, looking through the video slides and seeing their growth over the four years is amazing,” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “The legacy they are leaving with the program and where they program is headed is due to the leadership they give to our freshmen and sophomores. It is pretty awesome to see all the accolades of what the seniors have done and I am very proud of them.”

The Seminoles lead the all-time series against Georgia Tech, 48-26, including winning four of the last five games. FSU is 17-9 at home against the Jackets and 37-16 in conference games against GT.

Jessica Burroughs and Maddie O’Brien are the reigning ACC Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, after their performances against Pitt and Syracuse from April 16-20. Burroughs was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA while O’Brien reached base in 18 consecutive plate appearances on her way to batting .857 (6-for-7) with a .950 on base percentage.

The Yellow Jackets are led by Ashley Thomas who has a .403 batting average on 54-for-134 hitting. She also has six doubles and eight home runs. Alysha Rudnik is the main power threat for Georgia Tech, hitting 11 doubles, 10 home runs and driving in 41 RBI so far this season.

In the circle, the Jackets have depended on Kylie Kleinschmidt. The junior pitcher is 15-11 on the season with a 2.65 ERA. She has 165 strikeouts on 166.1 innings pitched in 2014.

Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday’s game will start at 12:00 p.m. We will be celebrating Senior Day prior to the game on April 27 to honor five seniors – Celeste Gomez, Tiffani Brown, Courtney Senas, Kelly Hensley and Jessica Nori – who have given so much to this program.
