Game Notes vs. Notre Dame

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Top-ranked Florida State (23-5, 10-2) continues its current five-game home stand this weekend as the Seminoles host Notre Dame (10-17, 1-11) in the first ACC series between the two schools. First pitch for game one on Friday, April 4 on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium is set for 6 p.m.

Game times for Saturday and Sunday are at 6 p.m. and 12 noon, respectively. Saturday is also Seminole Baseball’s alumni reunion with players dating all the way back from the 1950’s expected to be at Howser Stadium for the game. Players from the 1980’s will also be honored on the field before the start of Saturday’s game with Luis Alicea throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

Florida State and Notre Dame are meeting for the first time since the 2002 Tallahassee Super Regional. The Fighting Irish won the best of three series 2-1 to claim a trip to Omaha and the College World Series.

Florida State leads the all-time series by the narrowest of margins at 5-4 including a 5-3 mark at home. The Fighting Irish have held the upper hand in the series as of late winning four of the last five times these two schools have met.

The last regular season match-up between FSU and ND came in Orlando back on January 31, 1998 – a 10-1 victory for Notre Dame.

Florida State is 3-1 all-time when playing Notre Dame in the regular season as opposed to 2-3 during the postseason. The Seminoles and Irish also met in the 1993 Tallahassee Regional as the two teams split with Notre Dame winning the elimination game 4-3.

Sophomore outfielder DJ Stewart returns to the line-up this weekend after missing the last four games and Luke Weaver will return to the mound for his eighth Friday night start of the season looking to build off last weekend’s complete game, one-hit shutout against Boston College.

Friday and Saturday’s game will air on ESPN3 with Sunday’s game to be aired live on ESPNU. Audio for all three games will be available on the Seminoles.com All-Access player. Locally fans can listen to the game on 1270 AM (Friday) and 100.7 FM (Saturday & Sunday). As always, fans can receive in-game updates on Twitter @FSU_Baseball.
