TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State will host Oklahoma State, UCF and Bethune-Cookman this weekend (June 4-6) at Dick Howser Stadium in the opening round of the 2004 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Seminoles returned to Tallahassee early Monday morning after defeating Georgia Tech 17-5 to win the ACC Championship on Sunday. Oklahoma State qualified for postseason play by winning the Big 12 Tournament. BCC won the MEAC Tournament while UCF earned an at-large bid. Friday’s games will feature top-seeded Florida State and BCC. Oklahoma State, the No. 2 seed, will take on No. 3 UCF.
“Those are three outstanding teams,” said head coach Mike Martin. “Oklahoma State and BCC also won their conference tournaments and UCF has been ranked in the top 25 for most of the season. I think it will be a very tough regional, but it will be one fans will enjoy with these three teams coming in.”
The winner of the Tallahassee Regional will play the winner of the Fayetteville Regional, hosted by the national No. 8 seed Arkansas. Wichita State, Missouri and Le Moyne make up that regional along with Arkansas.
“I want to commend the work the committee did in selecting this field,” said Martin. “It is a very difficult task and they did an excellent job of putting it all together.”
The Seminoles won their fourth ACC Tournament Championship on Sunday in Salem, Virginia. Florida State has won 11 of its last 12 entering NCAA postseason play with an overall record of 42-20. Martin has won 40 or more games in each of his 25 seasons at FSU.
“This team showed me something this weekend,” said Martin. “To beat what was probably the hottest team in the country twice to win the ACC Tournament was a great accomplishment, but we’ve got 24 hours to enjoy it and then we are back to practice on Tuesday preparing for the regional.”
Tickets are available on online at www.seminoles.com. The Seminole ticket office is closed Monday, but will re-open Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. for phone and walk-up sales. Tickets can be ordered by phone at 888-FSU-NOLE or 850-64-GO-FSU. The ticket office is located at Gate C of Doak Campbell Stadium.
