The Florida State men’s team completed day two of the qualifying rounds of the ITA Region II Indoor Championships, being held from October 24 until the 28 at the University of North Carolina. Main draw action is set to begin Friday, Oct. 26.
After advancing to round two action yesterday Seminole senior Jeff Scarella would defeat Campbell’s Juan Carlos Osorio in three sets to advance to action in round three. There, Scarella would fall to Alex Fish of W&M. FSU’s Gustav Bucht fell in round two action to UNC-G’s Tanner Hadden.
In qualifying doubles action Laub and Xavier Luscan have advanced into semifinals competition after winning three straight matches. The Seminole tandem first defeated Wake Forest’s Rick Phillip and Andrew Simpson to advance into round two. There they took the win over Georgia Tech’s West Nott and Scott Schnugg, 8-5. In third round action they defeated UNC’s Trystan Meniane and Daniel Pinchbeck, 8-4. The two are now set to face Duke’s Peter Shults and Jason Zimmerman. Florida State’s Bucht and Romain Jurd are teamed together against UNC-G’s Paul Goode and Jason Varela to take the win, 9-8 and advance to round two. There they would fall to Wake Forests Trent Brendon and David Lowenthal, 9-7.
Main draw action will begin Friday morning for the Seminoles when Xavier Luscan, who is seeded fourth in the tournament faces Charlotte’s Jacob Nordwall at 9:00 a.m. Joining Luscan will be sophomores Romain Jurd and Alex Herrera. Herrera will go up against the No. 5 seed of the tournament in Georgia Tech’s Roger Anderson at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
Main draw doubles action begins on Thursday for the Seminoles as Jarrod Owen and Herrera team together to face the No. 1 seed of the tournament in Georgia Tech’s Roger Anderson and David Wright.
