No. 61 Florida State were hoping to rebound from past ACC losses as they took on 25th-ranked Georgia Tech tonight, however after many tough matches Georgia Tech came out on top 5-2. The win moved the Yellow Jackets to 5-1 in ACC action and 15-4 on the season, while the Seminoles are now 4-4 in ACC competition and 9-11 for the spring season.
The evening started out with the doubles competition as FSU’s Xavier Luscan and Bartosz Koldej teamed together to face the 44th-ranked Yellow Jacket tandem of David Wright and Roger Anderson. Fighting for every point Wright and Anderson took an 8-5 win over the Seminole duo. Georgia Tech would continue to win the rest of the doubles matches giving them the first point of the competition.
The Seminoles headed into the singles portion with much determination. Playing at the No. 1 position Luscan defeated the Yellow Jackets Romain Coirault in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Next to finish would be Seminole Jeff Scarella who fell to Joao Menano at the No. 6 position, 7-5, 6-1. Three other Seminoles would fall to their opponent but not without a fight. Romain Jurd and Bartosz Koldej took both of their matches into the third and final set before Georgia Tech could take the win. Rodrigo Laub took the second win of the day for the Seminoles as he faced Sergio Aguirre. Laub lost the first set 7-5 but came back to win the second set 7-5. In the tie breaker set Laub would come out on top defeating the Yellow Jacket 10-4.
The men will be back in action on Sunday, April 8th at 1:00 p.m. when they are scheduled to host the University of South Florida at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
