Tallahassee, Fla. — Florida State student volunteers, including a number of current student-athletes, will be collecting monetary donations for Haiti relief at the gates of the Tucker Center at Men’s and Women’s basketball games this weekend in Tallahassee. Donations will be accepted as fans enter the arena and again at halftime and all donations will be given to the local American Red Cross for Haiti relief efforts.

“Our University community is deeply concerned about the people in Haiti gravely impacted by the recent natural disaster,” said FSU Vice President Mary Coburn in a message on the university website. “There are a number of resources available to students, as well as an opportunity for those who want to help those in need.”

FSU’s men’s team plays Virginia Tech Saturday (Jan. 16) at 6:00 p.m. and the women play Sunday (Jan. 17) against NC State at 2:00 p.m.

FSU head men’s basketball coach Leonard Hamilton and women’s coach Sue Semrau released the following joint statement.

“Our student body and our faculty are very diverse at Florida State. We also have extensive international programs and this has certainly touched everyone on our campus.”

Anyone wishing to support the effort, but not planning to attend either game is encouraged to make a donation to the American Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org/).
