TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State football team is ranked third in the Associated Press Preseason Poll released Monday.
The ranking is the Seminoles’ highest in the preseason since opening the 2014 season No. 1 and marks the sixth time in eight seasons under head coach Jimbo Fisher the Seminoles are ranked in the top-10 of the AP’s preseason poll with three of those seasons beginning as a top-five team.
Florida State’s 2017 schedule features five opponents ranked in the preseason poll, including No. 1 Alabama in the season opener on Sept. 2 at Atlanta’s brand-new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The matchup features the highest-ranked teams in a season opener since the AP started a preseason poll in 1950. It will be the fourth top-five season-opening matchup, following No. 1 Pittsburgh against No. 5 North Carolina in 1982, No. 1 Nebraska against No. 4 Penn State in 1983 and No. 1 Oklahoma against No. 4 UCLA in 1986.
In addition to Alabama, the Seminoles host No. 18 Miami on Sept. 16 and No. 16 Louisville on Oct. 21 and travel to No. 5 Clemson on Nov. 11 and to No. 17 Florida on Nov. 25.
Florida State was also voted third in the USA Today Coaches Poll released on Aug. 3.
