TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team moves to 5-1 on the season with a 5-1 victory over Florida Atlantic University on Saturday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Due to a decision made by both coaches, the two teams only played singles matches in the contest. The match was the first meeting between the two teams.

In a quick 45-minute match, the Seminoles collected the first point of the afternoon from senior Alida Gallovits. Gallovits defeated Jessica Burrow, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Anca Dumitrescu overcame three match points to defeat Alena Dvorakova of FAU at the no. 1 position, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (5). At no. 2, sophomore Christina Denny defeated Tania Rivera, 6-0, 3-6, 6-0. After falling to 4-2 in the first set, freshman Meredith Fish fought back to take the no. 5 match, 6-4, 6-1. The Seminoles also collected a win from senior Jessica Balbuena, playing at the no. 3 position. Balbuena defeated Maria Aguirre- Gonez of FAU, 6-2, 6-2.

The Seminoles will face the Auburn Tigers Friday, February 10th before embarking on first road trip of the season. The Auburn match will begin at 2 p.m.
