FSU Tennis Players Earn Atlantic Coast Conference Recognition

TALLAHASSEE, FL.–The Florida State men’s and women’s tennis teams, which are competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Orlando this weekend, saw five players earn honors for their regular season performances in the conference at today’s ACC Spingfest banquet.

Xavier Luscan, a sophomore from France, went 6-1 at the No. 1 position and had an impressive 7-1 run overall in ACC regular season play, a performance that put him in the runner-up position behind Virginia’s Brian Vahaly for the No. 1 singles flight award.

Alida Gallovits, a junior from Romania, was the runner-up for the No. 1 singles flight award with a 5-2 record at that position, 5-3 overall in ACC play. Ansley Cargill (Duke), Marlene Mejia (North Carolina), and Bea Bielik (Wake Forest), were co-champions at No. 1.

Nanette Duxin, a senior from Uruguay, was the runner-up behind Virginia’s Laura James at the No. 5 position. Duxin went 4-1 at No. 5 and 5-2 overall against ACC opponents in the regular season.

Jessica Balbuena, a junior from The Woodlands, TX., and Samantha Schoeffel, a freshman from France, compiled a 6-2 record at No. 1 doubles, which put them in second place behind UNC’s Kendrick Bunn and Kate Pinchbeck.

Nanette Duxin and Alida Gallovits were also recognized for their efforts in doubles as the runner-ups for the No. 2 doubles flight award behind Duke’s Ansley Cargill and Kathy Sell. The FSU-duo went 6-2 against ACC teams at the No. 2 position.

The FSU men’s and women’s tennis teams will play the first round of the ACC Tourney on Friday, April 20th at 9 a.m., against Wake Forest and Georgia Tech respectively.
