FSU to Face BYU in Sweet 16

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – ( Following two sweeps in the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament at Tully Gym, the No. 8/6 Florida State (30-2) indoor volleyball team heads cross-country to face No. 12 BYU in the Seattle Regional Semifinal at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Alaska Airlines Arena on ESPN3.

The winner of that match will take on victor of No. 3/3 Washington (31-2) versus No. 11/14 Nebraska (22-9).

“BYU is a great team,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “They are big and physical but I think we can match up well against them. We have been battle tested this season and this is an opportunity for us to advance to the Elite Eight.”

The Cougars have faced three teams this season ranked in the AVCA Top 25, dropping regular season contests to the (No. 5) Huskies, 3-2 and No. 14 Colorado State, 3-1 before defeating No. 14/11 Arizona, 3-2 in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

The second match of the evening pits the third-seeded Huskies against Nebraska on their home floor. After dropping the opening day match to the Seminoles, 3-1 in Lincoln, Nebraska put together a 22-9 season while Washington lost two matches all year, placing second in the PAC-12.

On Saturday, the winners will compete in the Elite Eight round at 11:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
