March 14, 2002
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Florida State track and field program will host its second outdoor meet of the 2002 season, the Snow Bird Invitation, this Friday and Saturday at Mike Long Track on the FSU campus. The Snow Bird Invitational gives schools from the north a chance to escape its winter blues and travel down to sunny Florida to compete against many of the top athletes in the nation. Thirty-six schools will be competing in what will be its first outdoor competition of the year.
The Tribe will have 2002 Indoor All-Americans Shawn Brown and Lacy Janson competing this weekend as well as other NCAA hopefuls. Brown earned his third All-America honor last weekend after his placed fifth in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor championships. Janson, a freshman who owns the school and ACC pole vault records, finished sixth at the national indoor competition.
Friday’s competition is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw. Running events will start at 4 p.m. with the 4×100 relay. Day One competition will conclude with the men’s 10,000-meter run at 7 p.m. For a complete list of starting times, please visit www.seminoles.com.
