TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — With the 2019 season beginning in less than a month, Florida State Volleyball would like to invite fans to its Preseason Kickoff Event on August 17 at Tully Gym and the Dunlap Champions Club.
“Our depth this season is going to be amazing,” said FSU head coach Chris Poole. “We have really been at a disadvantage the last two years primarily because of a mixture of injuries and youth. We are going to have many different options this season and that is very exciting. The fans will get to see very competitive play with the Garnet and Gold match and there will be lots of talent on both sides of the net.”
Fans can attend the events at Tully Gym for free, which will begin on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a Garnet and Gold scrimmage, as the Seminoles make their first full appearance together on Lucy McDaniel Court.
Following the scrimmage, there will be an opportunity for fans to hear from head coach Chris Poole as he teaches “Volleyball 101” to explain some of the tactics, strategies and nuances of the game of volleyball.
“I love talking about volleyball and I am originally a teacher by trade,” said Poole. “I look forward to answering questions from the fans and giving them an insight to how volleyball is played. While it is a great spectator sport, high-level volleyball is still a fairly new sport, particularly in the south.”
The second portion of the Preseason Kickoff Event will take place on the fourth floor of the Dunlap Champions Club at Doak Campbell Stadium, and tickets are available for $30 through Seminole Boosters at one.fsu.edu. There will be a dinner, as well as a silent auction, with numerous items, events and experiences available to bid on, representing FSU volleyball and other Seminole sports.
The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, before Coach Poole officially starts things off with a welcome and introduction of the 2019 team. Following the dinner, Associate Head Coach Jeff Hulsmeyer and Assistant Coach Jordana Price will speak about the upcoming season and players, while seniors Payton Caffrey and Madison Sullivan will speak to the impact the boosters and alumni have had on the program. The five incoming freshmen will also speak before Coach Poole ends the evening and announces the winners of the silent auction.
Closing out the weekend on Sunday, August 18, in partnership with FSU Football Fan Day, the Volleyball team will be on hand outside the Donald L. Tucker Center to interact with fans around noon as they wait to go in and meet the football players.
