FSU Volleyball Signs Two

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –  ( The Florida State indoor volleyball head coach Chris Poole announced the signing of setter Brianne Burkert and outside hitter Christina Ambrose. Both players will be eligible for the 2015 season.


Burkert will serve primarily as a setter, however she does possess the capability of serving as a right side hitter. A 6’1” left-handed setter from Richardson, Texas, Burkert was named as the All-Area Setter of the Year and District 10 6-A Most Valuable Player while leading J.J. Pearce High School in assists, aces kills and hitting percentage, while helping the Mustangs to a No. 4 ranking in 6A in Texas this season.

“Brianne has a ton of potential to be a great setter for our program,” Poole said. “I love the flexibility that we will have with her as a left handed setter.  She has set and hit both at a very high level.  Her club team won the 17 and under National Championship last summer and she gets excellent training.  She will fit in great with her work habits and personality.”

Burkert was also a two-time All Texas Team selection and District 9 5A MVP. She captured the District 9 5A Best Attacker honor during the 2012-13 season before winning three different Newcomer of the Year awards, including one from the Dallas Morning News.

A member of the Texas Advantage Volleyball, Burkert plays for the 18’s Black team, where eight of her teammates signed NLI’s to NCAA Division I programs. In the summer of 2013, Burkert helped her team to the Junior Olympic National Championship.

“We have recruited some amazing setters at Florida State,” Poole said. “They have all played an important part of our offense and hitting percentage consistently being one of the best in the country.”

In addition to her excellence on the court, Burkert earned Academic All-District during all four years of her career.

“I have been looking forward to signing since the day I committed,” Burkert said.  “I am so honored to be a part of a program with such great players and coaches at such an amazing school. It has been my dream to play for a D1 program and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of such a successful program with great people.”



Ambrose enrolled at Purdue University in the spring on 2014 and took a redshirt for the fall.  She was a Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selection and’s No. 20 Senior Ace in 2013, while capturing an Under Armour first team All-America selection.

Ambrose was an outside hitter for the Orlando Volleyball Academy which won the AAU National Championship in 2011.

A native of Winter Park, Fla., Ambrose set the Winter Park High School record for kills in a season as a senior while earning a first team all-central Florida accolades as a junior, helping her team to a state runner-up finish. She also set the school record for kills in a match at 42. Ambrose was also the runner-up for the Class 8A Player of the Year award.

Ambrose will enroll in January with plans to major in psychology.

“It feels like I’m coming home,” Ambrose said. “I am so excited to become a Seminole and play with new teammates and coaches and build on the success they had this season.”
