FSU Women’s Tennis Completes Day Two of Action at The ITA Regionals

Day two of the 2001 ITA Regionals began with the third round of Singles for both the A and B draws and the second round of the consolations. The tournament is being held at the University of South Alabama. Competition began yesterday and will conclude on Monday, Oct. 29.

FSU Sophomore Christina Denny continued her successful come-back with a
brilliant victory over Elanie Fagan from Mississippi State University.
Denny reached the quarterfinals with a confident performance and is
one of the favorites of the B draw.

Also in the B draw, teammate Beth Lawrence fell today to Kristina Lohmos
from the University of Central Florida, 6-4 6-4. Lawrence fought her way back from
1-5 in the second set but her opponent finally obtained the victory.

In the A draw Anca Dumitrescu lost in straight sets to Mira Radu from
the University of Mississippi and Jessica Balbuena lost in straight sets as well
to Weyli Chang from the University of Alabama.

Later during the afternoon, the FSU doubles team of Lawrence and Balbuena
were defeated by Montoya and Rosenberg from Florida International University.

The Lady Seminoles will be back in action tomorrow morning as Denny
competes against Mason Miller from Georgia Tech for a spot in the semifinals.
