TALLAHASSEE, FL.- The Florida State women’s tennis team faced off today against Michigan State for the first time ever and came away with the win. FSU took the win over Michigan 7-0 today putting their record to 5-5 for the season.
The women started the afternoon off to a great start sweeping all three of the doubles matches to secure the doubles point for Florida State. Playing at the No. 1 position in doubles was the Seminole tandem of Jessica Balbuena and Samantha Schoeffel. The two defeated Michigan State’s Trine Lise Juliussen and Caroline Lay 8-3.
In singles competition, playing at the No. 1 position was Alida Gallovits who took the win over Michigan State’s Natasha Skogerboe 6-2, 6-3. The Lady Seminoles would finish each singles match in straight sets, each with wins over Michigan State. Samantha Schoeffel won her fourth straight match of the season and remains undefeated with her win against Juliussen, 6-1, 6-0. With a victory over Josie Schmude 6-1, 6-1, Seminole Christina Denny is now on a three match winning streak.
The women will now prepare to host Marquette University at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center Thursday, March 8th. Dual match competition is set to begin at 1:30p.m.
