FSU Women’s Tennis Wins Singles, Drops Doubles

Tallahassee – The Florida State women’s tennis team won all their singles matches but dropped three in doubles action against Florida International at the USF Invite in Tampa, FL this afternoon. The tournament is a part of a three-day event hosted by the Bulls and includes USF, Florida State and FIU’s Golden Panthers.

Seniors Anca Dumitrescu and Christina Denny defeated Bruna Discordia 6-2, 6-0 and Paola Guerrero 6-0, 6-0 respectively while junior Mihaela Moldovan bested Mei Ly 6-4, 6-0. Junior Natalie Tirapelli won one match against the Golden Panthers Christine Suard 7-6, 6-2 and sophomore Alina Mihailescu defeated Desanka Jovanovic 6-4, 6-7 and 10-5. Newcomer Roxanne Clarke rounded out the singles matches with a win over Courtney Jonson 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles action Dumitrescu and Daniela Gheorghe lost to Bruna Discordia and Mei Ly 8-2. The team of Amberly Tantee and Denny dropped the match to Courtney Jonson and Paola Guerrero 8-7 while senior Nicole Cercone and Tirapelli lost 8-6.

The Seminoles will return to action Sunday at 9 a.m. to play USF.
