March 3, 2008

She’s been the catalyst for the Florida State women’s basketball team this season and on Wednesday (March 3) Tanae Davis-Cain was recognized for her efforts. The junior was named Honorable Mention All-ACC by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association as announced by the league office.

Davis-Cain (Dawson, Ga.) is the 18th Seminole to be honored by the league’s media association and gave Florida State an All-ACC selection for the 11th season in a row. She is the 10th-different player under head coach Sue Semrau to earn All-ACC honors.

The team’s leading scorer at 14.7 points per game, which is five points higher than her scoring rate from last season, she has been on a tear during conference games. Davis-Cain rates amongst the league leaders in five different categories during ACC games, including scoring where she is 10th at 15.5 ppg. She has been sharp from behind the arc during conference games, rating fifth with 1.82 threes per game and seventh with her three-point rate of 30.3.

So far this season she has reached double figures 15 times including five games of 20 or more. She had a run of three-straight games with at least 20 points, which is the best stretch since former All-American Roneeka Hodges put up 20 in four-consecutive games in 2004-05.

This season Davis-Cain has made a significant move up the school’s three-point list. Currently she sits fifth in Seminole lore with 110 three-pointers. This season has been her most accurate behind the arc as her 33.3 percent (37-of-11) is ninth on the FSU single-season list.

The Seminoles are getting ready for the upcoming ACC Tournament where they will face Wake Forest in the first round. The game will tip off at 8 p.m. on Thursday (March 6) and can be heard on 1270 AM and and can be seen on ACC Select.
