FSU’s Horton Selected to U.S. Collegiate Team Program

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – Florida State’s rising senior outside hitter Katie Horton was one of 36 players selected to train and compete as part of the U.S. Collegiate Team-Indianapolis program on Friday. Horton, one of 231 athletes from 88 colleges and universities to participate in the U.S. Women’s National Team tryouts in mid-February, is one of six players from the ACC who made the squad.

The squad, part of USA Volleyball’s High Performance pipeline that is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women’s National Team, will train and compete from June 21-30 in Indianapolis, Indiana. After the program is divided into three 12-player rosters from the training portion, the competition phase involving a round-robin tournament of the three squads will take place June 26-29 under the same roof as the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships.

In Horton’s junior season she earned second team All-ACC honors after finishing in top five on the team in multiple categories including digs (308-2nd), digs/set (2.68-2nd), kills (220-4th), kills/set (1.91-4th), solo blocks (5-5th) and service aces (14-5th). She was one of 36 players selected to participate in the 2015 Collegiate National Team program last spring.

The Westland, Michigan, native recently completed a solid spring season for FSU where she posted a .290 hitting percentage, finished second on the team in digs (64) and led the Seminoles in serve receive efficiency (2.37).

“I am excited for her to have the opportunity again,” said Florida State head coach Chris Poole. “Because of her shoulder injury restricting her mobility she was limited offensively. Since that time, along with her conditioning and work with Caitlin Quinn she has gotten back to her previous form.”
