TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A 58-minute rain and lightning delay forced a fifth-inning suspension in Game One between No. 21 Wake Forest and Florida State Friday evening at Dick Howser Stadium. The Demon Deacons lead 4-2.
Game One will resume Saturday, May 13, at 3:00 p.m. Reliever Chase Haney threw six strikes on six pitches to retire Wake Forest in the top of the fifth before the tarp was rolled on the field, and Matt Henderson is scheduled to lead off the fifth for the Noles.
Fans should retain their ticket stubs from Game One for re-entry on Saturday. Game Two is still scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start, but there will be at least a one-hour break between games. The graduation ceremony will begin 20 minutes prior to Game Two.
What was supposed to be an offensive shootout started with both pitchers dominating. Florida State starter Cole Sands allowed just one baserunner through the first three innings, a second-inning walk to Gavin Sheets. Wake Forest starter Parker Dunshee allowed one hit, to Taylor Walls in the third inning, and walked two without allowing a run.
