Getting to Know: Corey Hendrickson

Jan. 22, 2014

Corey Hendrickson is focused on the 2014 season.

What made you choose Florida State?
Just that it is a big family. I didn’t realize that because in Colorado there aren’t a lot of Florida State fans. But when I visited here I saw how much tradition there was and how much everybody has everybody’s back and I liked that a lot. Out of all the other colleges I was looking at I just didn’t feel at home. I just stepped on this campus and felt at home.

What goals do you have for this season?
I definitely want to be looked at as a clutch player. You know, put me in a situation and I’ll do the best that I can do. I just want people to rely on me and that’s the kind of role I want to be in.

What is something unusual you like to eat?
Well, when I was a kid, I used to love mustard so much that sometimes all I would have was bread and mustard. That was interesting but I grew out of that. That’s probably the craziest thing.

Do you have any pregame routines or superstitions?
I usually put on my left sock before my right. And I always need to have gum or something. I guess if I don’t have a fixation in my mouth, I just feel off.

What are things you like to do to relax when you are outside of school and sports?
Definitely Netflix. I am on Netflix all the time if I am not doing homework. And sometimes just listening to music, you know, clearing the mind and chilling.

If you could live at any time in history, when would it be?
Definitely the 70s or the 80s, you know. I just love Disco and I would love to have that big afro and dance the way they dance. I don’t know, it’s weird. But that’s where I’d want to go.

Do you have a favorite song to sing at Karaoke?
“Firework”, by Katy Perry. I have a little dance routine with it, too. I just love it.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Definitely a night owl. In the mornings, just stay away from me, don’t ask me questions. But at night I’m ready to go and pumped. I don’t know why.

Do you have any siblings?
Yes. I have an older brother, who is a year older than me and plays football at Northern Colorado. I have a sister who just graduated last year from Colorado State.

What is your favorite memory from playing softball?
It was this summer. It happened in the championship game and we were down by three with two outs and I hit a walk-off grand slam. That was pretty awesome.

What are you looking forward to most this season?
How well we are going to do. I just know we are going to make it all the way. It is really exciting to see us get better and better every day, so that’s definitely what I’m looking forward to.
