TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball redshirt senior forward Kiah Gillespie picked up two significant honors on Monday, being named the ESPNW National Player of the Week and the ACC Player of the Week.
Gillespie has been on the watch of many over the last year, recently being named to the Wooden Award Late Season 20 List and also taking up spots on the Naismith Trophy Watch List and the Katrina McClain Award Watch List. It is Gillespie’s first ESPNW honor but her third ACC Player of the Week award this season.

The ACC Player of the Year candidate averaged a double-double in big wins vs. No. 5 Louisville on the road and against a gritty Virginia team at home. The Meriden, Conn., native scored 25 points along with 13 rebounds in the 67-59 win over the Cardinals. She followed with 22 points and eight boards in a defensive battle against the Cavaliers.
Gillespie averaged 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the floor in the two games played. The win over Louisville pushed FSU’s record to 5-1 this season against AP Top 25 opponents, a significant win that should put the Seminoles back in the mix for hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
She continues to pulverize Top 25 competition this season. In six games, Gillespie is averaging 21.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, shooting 52.9 percent (45-of-85) and draining 43.8 percent of her 3-point field goal attempts (14-of-32).
Gillespie and the Seminoles are in sole possession of third place in the ACC with a 9-4 conference record in addition to a 20-4 overall record. FSU has a mid-week bye this week and then plays at Duke (13-10, 7-5) on Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN2.
