Golf In 2nd Place At Florida State Match-Up

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (Seminoles.com) — At the conclusion of round two of the Florida State Match-Up at the Bay Point Golf Club, Florida State shot 27-over par and the Seminoles are second in the team standings.

“Today was a windy day and the course played hard but I think once we got settled in after the first round we played pretty well in the second round and put ourselves in the position to potentially catch the leaders tomorrow,” said Seminole Head Coach Amy Bond.

Sophomore Beatrice Wallin finished the first round tied for 11th place in the individual standings but moved up the leaderboard nine spots into second place with scores 75-72. She totaled five birdies and never carded a score more than 1 over par.

“I though Beatrice played very well. Her 75 this morning was very good in the conditions that we had and for her to turn around and shoot even par in the second round was also a really good round,” Said Bond. “She’s put herself in position to make a run tomorrow, which is certainly doable for her.”

Senior Amanda Doherty carded scores of 76-75 securing a tie for eighth place with two birdies on the back nine holes. Junior Kathleen Sumner tied for sixth place with scores 76-74. A birdie on hole 15 of the second round secured her spot on the leaderboard.

“Kathleen played probably two of her most consistent rounds so far in trying conditions and I’m excited to watch her and Amanda play tomorrow,” said Bond.

Sophomore Puk Lyng Thomsen, who competed as an individual, played consistently well for all 36 holes. She maintained a top 10 standing throughout the two rounds carding scores 72-77. She scored even par for eight holes of the first round and totaled four birdies.

“Puk’s 72 this morning was excellent,” said Bond. “And she too has the ability to make a run at the leader.”

Leading the individual standing is LSU’s Ingrid Lindblad who carded scores 71-72 for a total of 143.

“We need to put together a really good round tomorrow,” said Bond. “Overall I’m proud of the way we hung in there and I’m excited to see how we can compete with everyone else tomorrow.”

The LSU Tigers are leading the field, along with Clemson in the matchup format. Florida State and Alabama are second and trail the leaders by 11 strokes heading into Sunday.

FSU will tee off at 8:50 AM Sunday with LSU and Alabama.
