WILMINGTON, N.C. (seminoles.com) – Senior Amanda Doherty is in a tie for second place in the individual standings, and the Florida State Women’s Golf team is in third place in the team standings after the second of three rounds in the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall. Doherty carded a 71 in the second round – her second consecutive sub-par round – and begins play in Sunday’s final round only two strokes out of the individual lead as she plays for her first career tournament victory of her Seminole career.

Alabama played the best round of the second day and moved into first place in the team standings. The Crimson Tide holds an 11 stroke lead over South Carolina in the race for the team championship. Florida State is in third place and looking for its second top five team finish of the season. Angelica Moresco of Alabama is the individual leader after 36 holes with a total of 139. She has carded scores of 69-70.

“We put together a good, solid round today,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “We are going into tomorrow looking to shoot the round of the day. We are excited about playing in the final group and we’ll see where we finish. We’d really like to end the fall on a high note.

Doherty has carded sores of 70-71 for a two round total of 141. She carded five birdies in the second round as she improved her standing by five positions in the individual standings after finishing the first round in a tie for seventh place. Doherty was even par on her front nine and 1 stroke under par with three birdies on the back nine.

“I’ve been striking the ball well and, and I’ve managed to get a few putt to drop,” said Doherty. “Tomorrow, I’m going to make sure I stick to my game plan.”

Doherty has earned two second place finishes in her career with both coming in the spring of 2018 – at the Florida State Match-Up and the Brickyard Collegiate. She begins play in the final round looking to finish under par in a collegiate tournament for the 10th time in her career.

“Amanda is playing some really good golf right now,” said Bond. “The greens have a really fast pace to them and she’s putting the ball in a position where she can score well.”

Sophomore Amelia Williamson carded an even par 72 in the second round and has moved into a tie for 25th place in the individual standings. She has now carded scores of par or better in five of her last seven rounds. Williamson carded three birdies and 12 holes of par golf in finishing with her five score at 72 or better this fall.

Sophomore Beatrice Wallin carded a 73 in the second round and is in a tie for 334th place with a two-round total of 147. Freshman Elle Johnson carded a 74 in the second round for a two-round total of 151. She improved her individual standing by 16 places in the individual standings.

Florida State has earned the standing to play in the final group of the final round and will tee off with Alabama and South Carolina in a shotgun start beginning at 8:45 on Sunday morning.
