TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After earning All-District honors, rising senior Florida State diver Dylan Grisell was named to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-America Division I Men’s At-Large Third Team on Thursday.
Grisell earned the honor after being selected to the Men’s At-Large Team for District Four team on May 12 where he was one of 83 athletes chosen from 10 different sports.
“What an honor,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “He’s one of those guys that is incredibly talented and he’s very intelligent. He’s a fantastic student-athlete and I am very proud of him.”
In the classroom, Grisell is a biology major with a 3.95 grade point average. The Toronto, Ont. native is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team member, appearing on the Dean’s List three times and the President’s List twice during his career.
A platform specialist, Grisell became FSU’s first All-American in the event by placing seventh at the 2016 NCAA Championships (366.75) after taking the Zone B crown (789.85) at the regional qualifier. The team captain added a pair of eighth place showings at the ACC Championships both on 3-meter and platform following an ACC Diver of the Week honor for his performance at the Georgia Invite.
“School always comes first,” Grisell said. “I’ve always had a passion for science and I’m extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to purse my academic goals, which entails going to medical school after I graduate, while competing in a sport I love. I am honored to represent FSU both in the pool and in the classroom.”
