TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The No. 18/22 Florida State softball team will play outside of Tallahassee for the first time in 2010 as it travels to play at Jacksonville University on Wednesday before heading to Columbus, Ga. for the NFCA Leadoff Classic from Feb. 26-28.
The Seminoles hit the road riding a 10-game winning streak and run of five-straight games of shutting out their opponents. This past weekend, FSU concluded its final home tournament of the season with wins over Coastal Carolina, South Dakota State and Gardner-Webb.
Starting Wednesday, the ‘Noles will not have a chance to play at home again until March 13 when North Carolina comes to town to kick off ACC play.
“It’s nice to be able to play at your home park but you’ve got to on the road a little bit,” FSU head coach Lonni Alameda said. “The World Series obviously isn’t here so you have to be prepared for what it takes to win on the road and the challenges that present themselves.
“I am really excited to see how we do in Jacksonville and Columbus.”
After dominating the competition over the past week, Florida State was rewarded in the national polls.
The Seminoles will head to Jacksonville on Wednesday as the No. 18 team in the nation according to the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll (up from No. 20) and No. 22 in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top25 Poll (up from No. 23).
FSU’s game against the Dolphins is at 5:30 p.m. The team’s first game of the NFCA Leadoff Classis is Friday at 1:30 p.m. against Big Ten foe Illinois.
The ‘Noles will then play against Southern Illinois at 6:30 before facing Mississippi Valley State and Hofstra on Saturday and Kent State on Sunday before returning home.
