May 11, 2001

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Florida State University Department of Athletics is sponsoring a first-of-its-kind silent auction in conjunction with the second annual Steve Robinson celebrity golf tournament. The silent auction will take place at the Silver Slipper Restaurant in Tallahassee on May 20 with the golf tournament beginning at 9 a.m. at the Killearn Country Club on May 21. Proceeds from both events will be donated to Aubrey Boyd, a former Seminole basketball player who was left partially paralyzed after a tragic accident, and to the Roundball Club in the name of Godfrey Smith, a former longtime Seminole booster.

The silent auction will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Silver Slipper with bids taken from those in attendance for two hours. Seminole fans worldwide can participate in the event interactively by logging onto seminoles.com and calling two specially designated phone numbers during the event. Bids will only be accepted by phone on the night of the event. Selected auction items available online can be viewed by clicking the Steve Robinson Celebrity Golf Tournament button on seminoles.com.

By taking part in the on-line silent auction Florida State fans have the chance to become part of history and support the Seminole basketball program. The interactive silent auction offers Seminole fans and friends an opportunity to participate in a live event from anywhere in the world.

At 8:00 p.m., whoever has placed the highest bid for an item will be declared the winner. Those who are bidding by telephone will be bidding against guests who are at the event. All winning telephone bidders will be required to pay by Visa or Mastercard and will have to pay the appropriate shipping and handling charges for their items in addition to the winning bid price.

Among the items available in the interactive auction are a Vince Carter autographed Toronto Raptors jersey, a Vince Carter autographed framed picture collage, a Kobe Bryant autographed picture collage, an official 2000 Heisman Trophy program autographed by Chris Weinke, a trip for two to travel with the Seminole men’s basketball team to a road game during the 2001-02 season, a Bobby Bowden autographed picture and a behind the scenes tour of an Orlando Magic game including two game tickets.
