TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Juniors Tyler Holton and Cal Raleigh were named preseason All-Americans by Baseball America Monday morning. Holton is on the second team as a utility player and Raleigh is the third-team catcher.
Holton, from Tallahassee, earned preseason All-America recognition from D1Baseball, Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game. He enters 2018 after a standout sophomore season, finishing with a 10-3 record, 2.34 earned run average and 144 strikeouts in 119.1 innings pitched. Holton is expected to lead a deep Seminole pitching staff that returns all three weekend starters from a College World Series team in 2017.
Holton was a first-team All-American and All-ACC performer in 2017.
Raleigh was a 2016 freshman All-American and has 19 home runs through his first two seasons. The Cullowhee, N.C., native also has 32 doubles, a pair of triples and 89 runs batted in while starting 131 of 132 games played. Raleigh is also a preseason All-American from Collegiate Baseball.
Third baseman Drew Mendoza (D1Baseball) and outfielder Jackson Lueck (Perfect Game) have also been recognized as preseason All-Americans entering this season.
Florida State, a consensus top five team to begin the year, opened practice Friday. The season begins on February 16, 2018 at home against Xavier.
