TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Reserves Antwuan Dixon and David Anderson came off
the bench to join starters Ron Hale and Damous Anderson in double figures
Tuesday night as Florida State opened its home basketball season with an 81-70
victory over Norfolk State.
The Seminoles (1-1) took advantage of a frigid Norfolk State shooting start
to build a 16-2 lead on its way to a 41-24 halftime advantage. The visiting
Spartans didn’t score their first field goal until Darrell Neal’s basket six
minutes into the game.
Dixon scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 17 minutes of playing time
while the 7-foot Anderson, a sophomore transfer from Brigham Young, chipped in
with 10 points and 9 rebounds in 20 minutes.
Senior Ron Hale led the Seminoles with 14 points and Damous Anderson added
Norfolk State (0-2) hit just 2 of its first 26 shots from the floor as it
fell far behind early, before playing the Seminoles on better than even terms
for much of the final 30 minutes.
Damian Woolfolk led Norfolk State with 15 points although he connected on
just 6 of 23 attempts. Dion Dove came off the bench to score 13 points for the
Spartans and Neal added a dozen along with 16 rebounds against the taller
