TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior Jaelin Howell becomes the second Seminole this season to be named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week. Howell helped lead the Noles to a pair of shutout wins over Virginia Tech, 4-0, and Wake Forest, 4-0.
Howell recorded her first goal of the season in Florida State’s win over Virginia Tech. The goal came off of a Jenna Nighswonger corner kick in which Howell went vertical, heading the ball into the back of the net to give the Seminoles a 2-0 lead.
Florida State’s defense led at the top by Howell at the holding midfield position, earned their third and fourth shutouts of the season. Florida State only allowed three shots, one on goal, in the two games this past week against Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. The four straight shutouts to start the season are the second-most in program history.
Howell and the rest of the defense have combined to form the nation’s best defense. Florida State is the only team that has not allowed a goal through four games.
With Howell setting up the Seminole offense, they also have the country’s best offense, averaging 3.5 goals per game, averaging almost a whole goal more than the next team.
Florida State is off this week before heading back on the road to take on Pitt (October 15) and Virginia (October 18).
