Hule Ready To Compete For ITA National Fall Championship

San Diego, CA – For the first time in school history, the Seminole women’s tennis program will have a singles player competing at the ITA National Fall Championships. Petra Hule will open her chase for the championship Thursday as one of just 32 collegiate players vying for the title. Hule is only the third Seminole women’s tennis player to ever advance to the ITA National Fall Championships and the first since 2006 when Lauren Macfarlane and Nicola Slater advanced in doubles.

“We are really excited to see Petra compete at the ITA National Fall Championships,” said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. “This is by far the most difficult national championship in college tennis to qualify for. Pep has earned her way here via an extremely challenging road. She will compete against some of the best collegiate tennis players in the country and that is exactly where she belongs. We can’t wait to kick things off Thursday.”

“This is really exciting and I am looking forward to tomorrow,” said Hule. “I’ve been waiting a while to get back on the courts and being here in San Diego for this event is really nice.”

Hule, who is entering her senior year, is 10th all-time for most career wins (156) at FSU and appears on an FSU top 25 single-season or career lists 19 times. In 2021, the Australian had the best season of her FSU career in singles posting a career-high for wins, winning percentage and fewest losses. Her 16-3 mark in singles placed her with the best winning percentage on the team and the second-most total wins while posting the fourth-highest single-season win percentage in program history (84.2). Hule also posted a team-high nine-match win streak in helping FSU advance to the national quarterfinals for the second time in three years.

“Playing this weekend in nationals has been a progression for me,” said Hule. “It wasn’t something I specifically thought about but I just wanted to keep focusing on the next tournament, progressing through that and moving on to the next one.”
