TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State freshman Ida Hulkko will be representing Finland at the 14th FINA Short Course World Championships that will run from Dec. 11-16 in Hangzhou, China.
“I’m really excited for Ida,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “She had an amazing first semester here at FSU and she is ready to go over there and do great things.”
The Finnish National Team member will compete in the 50m breast on Dec. 11, before racing in the 100m breast that is scheduled for Dec. 14. Prelims each morning will start at 9:30 a.m. (CST), with the top 16 advancing to semifinals, which start each day at 7 p.m. (CST). The eight fastest swimmers will then compete in the championship heat, which will be held the following day during finals.
The meet will be streamed via FINA TV, which can be accessed through fina.org.
Hulkko recently competed at Finland’s National Championships in mid-November in Vassa, where she took home two gold medals and a silver. Hulkko was victorious in both the 100m breast (1:05.70) and 200m breast (2:28.05) and was also the runner-up in the 50m breast (30.16).
In her first semester in the Garnet and Gold, Hulkko posted the second fastest time in FSU history in the 100 breast at 59.03, which ranks as the fifth best swim in the NCAA this year. Hulkko earned an ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honor following her performance in the upset over No. 13 Minnesota.
