Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State head coach Jennifer Hyde will lead the Florida team at the United States Tennis Association 18 and Under Girls Team Championships when the event takes place next month in Claremont, Calif., the organization announced last week.
“I’m thrilled and humbled to have been chosen by USTA Florida to coach their U18 Team Championships this July,” Hyde said. “I know USTA Florida coaches are itching to get the U18 Team Championship title back to Florida, and I’m excited to help lead them this summer. They’ve put together a very solid group of young talent from our state, and I’m really looking forward to spending the week with this group of young ladies.”
Hyde, the Seminoles all-time wins leader, enters her 13th season as the Florida State head coach. Under Hyde, FSU has reached nine NCAA tournaments, while reaching the ACC Tournament final twice. She was named the South Region ITA Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2011.
The USTA 18 and Under Girls Team Championships comprise one of the strongest field of players in the country. The USTA is broken into 17 sections, and each section sends a team of six or seven players to the Claremont Tennis Club to participate in college-style play. The prestigious event regularly includes the top high-school aged players in the country.
The Florida team will be led by Meible Chi, a Duke commit from Weston, Fla., and runner-up at last week’s ITA Summer Circuit held in Tallahassee.
