Iradukunda Bows Out of National Indoors

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Junior Guy Iradukunda fell to Stanford’s Tom Fawcett 6-4, 6-1 in the first round of the consolation singles draw of the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Friday afternoon to conclude his play in the exclusive event.

To earn a spot in the field, Iradukunda defeated four ITA-ranked opponents en route to the Southeast Regional Championship in Tallahassee two weeks ago.

Iradukunda wraps up a successful fall season in which he became just the second Seminole to win the ITA Regional singles title and enter the Indoor Championships, joining Clint Bowles in 2009. Last season, Benjamin Lock earned an at-large bid to the Indoor Championships, where he won the consolation draw.

Considered the second leg of the collegiate Grand Slam along with the ITA All-American Championships and the NCAA Championships, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships will run from Nov. 3-6.
