Tallahassee, Fla. – For Florida State women’s tennis senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita), the accolades for her outstanding play and leadership keep coming. The two-time All-American, top flight singles and doubles player was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Region Arthur Ashe Award for Sportsmanship and Leadership recipient, announced on Monday, May 09, 2005 by the governing body of collegiate tennis, the ITA.
Moldovan earned the honor for her achievement on and off the court. The 2005 Florida State Golden Nole recipient, for dedication to community service and athletic excellence, has compiled a 16-4 record and a #14 singles ranking this season. The two-time All-ACC selection is seeded in the top 16 singles players in the nation entering the 2005 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships on May 23, 2005 in Athens, Ga.
She, alongside junior Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, Fla./Boca Raton Prep), comprise the 16th-best doubles team in the nation with a team-leading 14-6 record. The pair, playing out of the number one flight, has been ranked as high as eighth in the nation and has wins over three top-12 opponents this season.
The team will begin its championship run on Friday, May 13 against Florida International in Gainesville at 2:00 p.m.
