Jason Stidham Earns ACC Baseball Player of the Week Accolades

May 21, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State collected its ninth weekly honor from the league office this week as freshman Jason Stidham was recognized by the ACC as the Baseball Player of the Week. Stidham played a huge roll in the Seminoles sweeping all three games from Georgia Tech in Atlanta for the first time in school history.

Stidham put together a spectacular three-game series as the freshman third baseman hit .571 (8-for-14) registering multiple hits in all three games as he posted his second four-hit game of his career in game one. A native of Palm Bay, Fla, Stidahm collected a home run and three doubles en route to posting a 1.000 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .588. He led the team in hits (8), doubles (3), RBI’s (10), total bases (14) and batting average on the week.

He opened the series with four hits including a home run and a double as he accumulated his first four-RBI game of his collegiate career. He hit what would be the eventual game-winner in the top of the third as he hit a two-out, 2-RBI single. On Friday, he had two doubles and two RBI’s as well as a stolen base. In the series finale, Stidham tied his career-high in RBI’s with four, matched just two days prior. In a nine-run third, Stidham made two plate appearances and was the only Seminole to collect two hits in the inning. He hit a two-run single in his first at-bat and then an RBI infield single in his second at-bat. He hit a sacrifice fly RBI in the ninth to cap off his 10 RBI performance.

This marks the ninth time this season and the seventh time in the last eight weeks that a Seminole student-athlete has been recognized as either the Player or the Pitcher of the Week. The nine weekly honors ties a school record set on three previous occasions in 1997, 1998 and 1999. Stidham joins Tony Thomas, Jr. (3), Bryan Henry (2), Brandon Reichert, Buster Posey and Danny Rosen to win the award in 2007.

Stidham and the Seminoles are back in action on Wednesday, May 23 at 7:00 pm as they take on Wake Forest in game one of the 2007 ACC Baseball Tournament at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla.
