TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – For the second week in a row, Florida State pitcher Jessica Burroughs has been honored as the ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. It is the third ACC weekly accolade of Burroughs’ career.
“I’m proud of JB for her work this week, but this could almost be given as a team award,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “The defense behind her was excellent all weekend, making plays and keeping runs off the board while the offense produced at the plate so she could pitch with a lead and be successful.”
Burroughs showed her skills in a pair of wins at the Stacy Winsberg Tournament this past weekend. Against No. 13 UCLA to open the competition, Burroughs held the nationally-ranked Bruins without a hit until the bottom of the seventh inning, allowing just one base hit along with a walk and five strikeouts as the Noles earned a shutout win against UCLA at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles.
Burroughs also earned a win in relief at Cal State Northridge, tossing 1.1 innings of shutout softball, allowing just one hit and recording three strikeouts in the four outs during her time in the circle as she earned her 10th win of the season.
For the week, opponents batted just .077 against Burroughs, recording two hits and a walk versus eight strikeouts for the week. Burroughs has not allowed more than one hit in any of her last six appearances, giving up a total of five hits over her last 24.0 innings of work.
